About PeakAlpes

Our history

Our craft company was born 15 years ago, passionate about painting and woodworking, we combined our two skills to create unique and original objects. It all starts with a boutique shop for decorative painting, toys and wooden objects, located in Grau d'Agde in Hérault. With the creation of our website theElves workshop we are diversifying our offer and offering accessories for wire art and creative hobbies.

In 2017 we settled in the heart of the Hautes Alpes, more precisely in Orres at 1500 meters above sea level. We make the choice of a simpler life close to nature. This beautiful mountain environment in which we live, inspires us and our creativity evolves towards objects closer to nature and a return to the sources with almost unique pieces and an intact passion. The raw woodwork, the shapes, the nuances that reveal themselves, the sober and natural tones, the play of colors and materials ... a new universe is being born.
Animal painting on massive larch, relief paintings, trophy or animal figurines, hearts to hang ... from the decorative object to the exceptional piece, each unique creation is there to embellish your chalet or your interior.

Of course the mountain decoration and its cocooning atmosphere inspire us particularly, but on our online store PeakAlpes.fr you will also find a section with an air of countryside, a space for decorating a child's bedroom and a seaside atmosphere. And as our creativity knows no bounds, you will regularly find new products, new projects and materials.
A mine of ideas to have fun or to please!

This bond that unites us in life is the same between art and wood,
It is found in each of our creations that we always make with emotion and pleasure.

Laurence

After training as a biologist, but passionate since childhood about drawing and painting, I finally decided to reorient myself in this area. I first take lessons with a copyist painter and improve my skills in the production of oil painting.
But I am attracted by the supports in volume and the material, so I undertake a training in decorative painting. These two pictorial techniques offer me a palette of artistic possibilities.

I create all the designs on paper or graphic palette, Christophe takes care of the “wooden part”, finally the object returns to my workshop for painting and finishing. I only use non-toxic acrylic paints and environmentally friendly varnishes tinted with natural pigments.

Christophe

After 15 years in submarines as golden ears, already in love with woodworking, I deepen from 2005 my knowledge in the field, by doing different training and internships, in contact with professionals in the sector, preparation of the wood, wooden toys, woodworking machines etc ...
I often take advantage of Laurence's overflowing creativity to combine his designs and models and thus create new objects. I use different types of wood depending on the objects to be made and only untreated wood. In the Hérault I loved chestnut and ash, but also poplar and beech, but today in the Hautes-Alpes, my choice is more towards larch, pine cembros, fir and always beech .

I use raw wood (not planed with bark) and prepare my boards myself for the realization of the objects. Choice of plank, flow, planing, and sanding are important steps in woodworking.

The cutting is then generally done with a scroll saw, allowing precise cuts in thick solid wood.
Routing also allows certain finishes on frames and objects and careful sanding brings a high quality finish before painting or varnishing.
I also have a laser saw which makes it possible to cut certain fine woods but especially to engrave the wood directly for very precise achievements and personalizations.
So everyone in their field is free to let themselves be carried away by their creativity and the raw material. Our realizations are truly the fruit of a complementarity and association of our two know-how. The mastery of Laurence's pencil and brushes associated with the meticulous work of Christophe's wood allows us a multitude of possibilities and forms.
Realistic paintings or naive subjects, color games, color contrasts enhancing the grain of the wood, combinations of thicknesses and reliefs, association of natural materials (boiled wool, linen ...) give birth to authentic and original creations.
